Les Impatients: Qu'est-ce qui ce passe dans ma tête

29 November - 21 December 2018

Les Impatients will be selling pieces from its collection at its exhibition and sale, Qu’est-ce qui se passe dans ma tête, taking place at Galerie Deux Poissons, from November 29 to December 21, 2018. For the first time, the general public will have the opportunity to purchase pieces from the collection at this special show.

A total of 23 pieces will be shown (20 on paper and 3 sculptures). People are invited acquire these captivating works, including pieces by Romain Peuvion, the collection’s first participant whose work is inspired by memories of childhood under the German occupation; Philippe Lemaire, whose paintings (over 800) almost all have a unique title and story— Le char de mon père—and several of which have been acquired by the Collection de l’Art Brut in Lausanne; Normand Hébert who, driven by his desire to be released from hospital, created a vivid series on brain agitation, among which one was featured at the National Gallery of Canada’s Mindscapes exhibition in 2004. The exhibit will also display pieces by Pierre Ostiguy, outsider art artist who, cooped up in his workshop, expressed himself through art based on social issues.

Les Impatients has been collecting outsider art pieces since its beginnings in 1992. While some come from collectors, most were created during the organization’s art workshops for people with mental health challenges. To date, the Les Impatients Collection has over 15,000 pieces. A Canadian pioneer in its genre of collection, the organization sets itself apart by its scientific and artistic potential. It embodies a passionate proposal for societal heritage.

Founded in 1992, Les Impatients’ mission is to help people with mental illnesses through artistic expression. Les Impatients offers creative workshops and encourages exchanges with the community through the sharing of its participants’ creations.
