Stephen Schofield

Stephen Schofield is a multidisciplinary artist born in Toronto, Ontario who currently lives and works in Montreal. Through drawing, sculpture, and performance, the figurative representation of the human body is at the core of his artistic practice.

Since 1970, Stephen Schofield has nationally and internationally exhibited drawings, sculptures and performances in various galleries and museums; including the Sculpture Centre (1990), the Power Plant in Toronto (1994), the Southern Alberta Art Gallery in Lethbridge (1994), the Montreal Biennale (1998), the Sculpture Garden in Toronto (2002), the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art (2003), as well as several other exhibitions in the White Column and at the Horodner Romley Gallery in New York. In 2016, Schofield created a major public art installation which remains stationed as five segments along the Promenade Jeanne-Mance, Montreal.

Stephen Schofield’s work can be found in public, corporate, and private collections in  Canada, France and the United States. His work is included in the collections of several major museums including the National Gallery of Canada, the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Quebec Museum of Fine Arts. In 2012, he was the subject of a major exhibition that included his monumental sculptures at the CUE Foundation in New York City, accompanied by an artist's book.

Stephen Schofield was awarded the Louis-Comtois prize from the city of Montreal in 2004. In 2008, he represented Canada at the ISCP (International Studio and Curatorial Program) residency in New York. Schofield taught for the School of Visual and Media Arts at the University of Quebec from 1999 to 2022.
