Sylvie Bouchard : Historic installation in the Musée d'art de Joliette's new permanent exhibition

McBride Contemporain is thrilled to announce that Sylvie Bouchard's historic installation is on view for the first time in over 40 years at the Musée d'art de Joliette's permanent exhibition Collective actions. A feminist view of the collection

Bouchard's contribution to the development of installation art and the new figurative movement in painting made her an integral figure in postmodern art in Quebec in the 1980s. Her piece titled Installation embodies her response to those who, in the early 1980s, had declared the death of painting.  This piece attests to the genesis of Bouchard’s practice and the scope of the graphic vocabulary she developed throughout her career, which she continues to reinterpret to this day. This is a pioneering example of installation art in Québec, and a rare one, given that it remains intact.
